The department of the Hautes Pyrénées occupies what was once called the county of Bigorre.
This region is characterised by its authenticity and the variety of its attractions: valleys with a marked character, maintained pastoral traditions, traditional mountain villages and natural sites of great beauty, some of which hold UNESCO classification, such as the Cirque de Gavarnie.
Gavarnie is the cradle of “Pyreneism”, a concept first introduced in the 19th century by Beraldi, who describes a physical experience that is inseparable from aesthetic and cultural emotion… Botanists, poets, painters would then make the Pyrenean landscapes famous.
Nowadays, in summer and winter alike, sports, wellness and outdoor enthusiasts flock to the ski resorts, spas, hiking trails and the banks of countless mountain lakes.
Many other places of interest attract visitors: the Marian shrine of Lourdes, the site of the Pic du Midi and its observatory, the Pyrenees National Park working to protect the local flora and fauna … including the bears!
Gastronomy is not to be forgotten, and we could mention, in no particular order: the white beans of Tarbes, the garbure stew, the Pyrenean cheese, the Bigorre black pig or the astonishing spit cake…

Located in a vast park facing the Pic du Midi, 20 km from Tarbes, capital of the Bigorre region, this 3-star hotel features a bar and free Wi-Fi access.
